While trying to find a voice with my work, thru frustration, I chose to reference a self-portrait taken while on a decade trip around the world well before I had even picked up a paint brush for a living.
During my journey decisions, more than occasionally, where made over a coin flip,
which led to several unplanned adventures.
In the composition of this piece I chose to remove myself, but in deep thought of my motivations came the symbolism of the journey and the tracks of life for which I had been and continue along.
To help tell the story, I placed specific items to symbolize each part of my message.
With the immediate connection of this piece, it forced me to deeply search my own reasoning for the paths of life I travel, and led to showing my emotions and questions in each one of my canvases, with an understanding that we are all similar and connected, even if we do not discuss it with others, or do not comprehend our own conclusion of ‘why’ at that moment.
‘True Value’ was never the currency of the coin, but the random outcome of experiences once flipped.
