I was honored to be a big part of the 150 Anniversary of the Gaslamp Quarter this past Tuesday night.
They honored my local gallery - MJW Fine Arts, as the eldest establishment in the area.
Also I got to personally meet Thom Hom whose hard work back in 1970 transformed 5th ave into what it is today, and is still an extraordinary figure at the age of 90, which blew my mind due to his youthfulness.
We got to spend some time with our Mayor Kevin Faulconer and his lovely wife Kathryn where my wife and I discussed the balance of family and professions...... a common ground a lot of us face.
I was welcomed up on stage in order to tell the back story of the piece I created for this event - 'The Road we have Walked' and how the Gaslamp gave me the opportunity to follow my passions.

SIMA - "Waves of the World" - 5ft by 24ft installation
Tillack was recently asked by SIMA to create the main artwork in their new OC office that symbolizes their goals, statement and awareness not just to the surf industry but to our beloved coastal environment by awarding grants to various environmental groups based on their dedication to preserving and protecting the world's oceans, beaches and waves with such charitable events as the Waterman's Ball.
The piece is called "Waves of the World" and is made up of three individual pieces each covering an area of 5ft x 8ft depicting old world maps. Placed above chosen areas are hand painted images of the waves that are on offer in this land.
"After traveling around the world for 10 years, I have seen the beauty that it has to offer, and I have seen the devastation which we have caused, and it is only growing. If we do not look after what we've got, we wont have it for long and we will only be denying ourselves, and our future family and friends!"
